Warren Diegel has been continuously involved in Scouting As a youth, Warren was a Cub Scout and earned his Arrow of Light. He is an Eagle Scout with Silver Palm and served for five summers on staff at Northwoods Scout Reservation in Oxford, WI.
During college, Warren was an active member of Alpha Phi Omega, the service fraternity affiliated with the BSA, at Northern Illinois University. After graduation, he was “recruited” by a fellow brother who had become a Scout Professional. He served as a Unit Commissioner, District Vice-Chairman, and District Chairman in the Northwest Suburban Council in Illinois during which time he earned his Commissioner’s Arrowhead, Scouter’s Key, District Award of Merit, and Wood Badge Beads. He served as Den Leader, Pack Committee Chairman, and Assistant Webelos Den Leader and earned his Cub Leader and Den Leader Awards.
Since 2001, Warren has been active with Troop 172 chartered to St. Jude Catholic Church. He has served as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Advancement Chairman and Scoutmaster. Currently, he is a member of the Troop Committee. He earned his Scoutmaster Award of Merit and Scoutmaster Key.
He has served Mountain District as Camping Chairman, Training Chairman, and the Order of the Arrow Chapter Advisor. He earned his District Committee Key in 2007.
His leadership to the Cherokee Area Council includes Training Chairman and serving on staff for Wood Badge as a Troop Guide in 2002, Course Director in 2005, and Course Advisor in 2007. He is now serving as a Wood Badge Area Coordinator for Area 6 of the Southern Region. Warren served on the Council Executive Board as Vice President of Program for 2007 and 2008. He is now serving as Council Commissioner as well as the Council Chairman for the BSA Centennial Celebration.
He attended training at Philmont Training Center in 2004, served on staff at the 2005 National Jamboree, and attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference in 2006. In 2007, he served on the training faculty at Philmont Training Center.
He is a Vigil Honor member of the Talidandaganu’ Lodge of the Order of the Arrow and will be serving as the Lodge’s NOAC contingent leader for 2009. He is coordinating the Council’s National Jamboree contingent for 2010.
Warren is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #610 and is an active lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Jude Catholic Church. He is a member of the Nationwide Tour Chattanooga Golf Classic volunteer committee. He has been a high school football and basketball official for the past twenty-five years and officiated a TSSAA State Football Championship game in 2002. He serves as Treasurer and Trainer for the Southeast TN Football Officials Association.
